Fall 2019 Openings

Responsibilities

  • The QTM 100 Head TA has the following standard QTM 100 TA responsibilities:
    • TAs will instruct one weekly lab section of approximately 40 students
    • Attend weekly meetings with other QTM 100 TAs and QTM 100 course instructor(s)
    • Supervise an undergraduate Lab Assistant (LA)
    • Provide other course-related support such as grading, grade entry, development of assignments or exams/exam questions, and holding weekly office hours
  • In addition to the standard QTM 100 TA responsibilities, the Head TA assumes the following responsibilities with other TAs and with the course:
    • Answer questions from other TAs and provide oversight of TA grading
    • Act as liaison between QTM department administration and QTM 100 teaching team
    • Facilitate scheduling and schedule changes for the QTM 100 TAs and LAs (e.g., office hours, covering each other's labs, setting weekly meeting times, etc.)
    • Lead and take notes at weekly TA meetings
    • Oversee production and finalization of lab materials, such as lab quizzes and grading rubrics for homework
    • Proofread exams for all sections of QTM 100
    • Assist with proctoring the QTM 100 final exam

Expected Hours

  • 15-20 hours per week

Compensation

  • $5000 per semester, paid in monthly installments (e.g., $1250.00 per month)

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of introductory statistics is required (e.g., basic probability, t-tests, chi-squared tests, ANOVA, linear regression)
  • Knowledge of R/Rstudio is required to be QTM 100 Head TA
  • Must have strong organizational skills
  • Must be willing to work as a team! QTM 100 services 450+ students a semester. The course instructors, TAs, and lab assistants all work together to serve students and ensure uniform teaching practices across sections
  • Status as a current Emory University graduate student (no specific field preferred or required)
  • One year of teaching experience as either a TA or instructor of record

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of introductory statistics is required (e.g., basic probability, t-tests, chi-squared tests, ANOVA, linear regression)
  • Must be willing to work as a team! QTM 100 services 450+ students a semester. The course instructors, TAs, and lab assistants all work together to serve students and ensure uniform teaching practices across sections
  • Must be a current graduate student at Emory University (no specific field preferred or required)
  • Knowledge of R is preferred, but not required; if you are unfamiliar with R, training can be provided
  • Teaching experience is preferred, but not required

  • Provide other course-related support such as grading, grade entry, development of assignments or exams/exam questions, and holding weekly office hours

Expected Hours

  • 10-15 hours per week, with the specifics to be negotiated between the TA and the course instructor

Compensation

  • $1750 per semester, paid in monthly installments (e.g., $437.50 per month)

Qualifications

  • Must be a current graduate student at Emory University (no specific field preferred or required)
  • Must have experience with multivariate calculus and linear algebra

  • Work with the course instructor to set manageable and realistic expectations for completing tasks
  • Neatly tabulate grades and marks
  • May report on errors commonly made by students in the class. Instructors should discuss the nature of such reports with graders at their initial meeting
